Málaga CF and CD El Palo celebrate 110 years of football in Málaga (3-2)

The two ‘Malagueño’ clubs commemorated the 110-year anniversary since the first ever football match was held in Málaga, in tonight’s game at the Ciudad de Málaga stadium in front of 1,200 fans including Málaga CF president, Abdullah Ben Nasser Al Thani.

The match, which served as the epilogue to the season for the Blue and Whites, began with a standing ovation from those in attendance to the Club president Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani, who was watching the match along with his counterpart from CD El Palo, Juan Godoy.  The starting-11 included Willy, Weligton and Rescaldani, along with El Palo-born Francisco Portillo, who enjoyed what was a special match for him.

The ‘Malaguistas’ took an early lead thanks to a goal after six minutes by Juanmi, following impressive play between Rescaldani and Portillo, assisting the Coín-born striker in outwitting the CD El Palo keeper.

There were no further clear goal chances for either side during the first half, although both teams were determined to play a good game of football in order to please the fans at the Ciudad de Málaga stadium.

Málaga CF made a series of changes at half-time.  Camacho, Sergi Darder and Roque Santa Cruz joined the match, the latter scoring the second goal from a header in the 80th minute following a precise cross from Vela on the right wing.

La Academia goalkeeper, Pol Ballesté, who substituted Willy Caballero before half-time, made a fantastic save in minute 69 as Joselito came close to scoring for CD El Palo.  Minutes later, ‘Juvenil’ player Pedro scored goal number three from in front of the target, which looked to secure the Blue and Whites’ victory.

However, the match wasn’t over yet.  Juanillo scored twice for CD El Palo in minutes 84 and 85, to leave the score board a little more even at the end of play.  A crowd-pleasing match with a lot of goals ended in a 3-2 win for Málaga CF.

The 2013/14 season has now come to an end for the Blue and Whites, and the players will now enjoy their holidays before returning for the start of pre-season training.
