LaLiga integrity workshop at La Rosaleda

Málaga CF’s first team and reserve team enjoyed a talk today focused on professional integrity in relation to sports betting.

Following this morning’s training session for Sergio Pellicer’s team at La Rosaleda Stadium’s annexe, LaLiga’s Tino Villabona offered an interesting and instructive talk to the players belonging to the Blue and Whites’ first and second team. The entity’s judicial administrator, José María Muñoz, was also present for these talks.

The workshop was focused on the importance of protecting the competition and the players from bad practice in regard to betting on matches. The player, by law, is not permitted to make bets, and will be subject to fines, professional disqualification, or even administrative relegation of their club.

LaLiga has several technological tools available to determine how the odds fluctuate in sports betting, tracking what happens instantly in every match. Doing something that goes against professional conduct (match fixing or letting yourself win, for example) will result in years of disqualification and even imprisonment. The punishment will affect the competition itself, the club and the player who also will not be able to participate directly or indirectly with another football classic, the pools.

To summarise, the Blue and Whites received clear and practical information. Avoid betting to circumvent extremely negative consequences individually and collectively for the good health of LaLiga. Málaga Club de Fútbol is committed to education and training through courses and workshops that contribute to good football practice, always respecting fair play. In adherence to the current regulations and collaborating as a sports entity to defend the honour of one of the best competitions in the world, LaLiga, where the Club competes in the silver division of Spanish football, LaLiga SmartBank.
