Lago Junior: “We have to believe in what we’re doing”

The Blue and White player appeared before the media in the 'Juan Cortés' press room at La Rosaleda. “A month ago we were 11 points away and it looked dark; now we are six, there are fewer games left, but we’re convinced that we can do it,” he stated.

With his mind set on El Toralín, Lago commented that he’s “happy to be with the group and the team. The other day I participated very little, but I’m happy to be back with the team. We drew, we weren't happy, but we scored a point,” said the Blue and White number '7'.

Regarding the team’s situation, the attacker has shown himself to be cautious, but hopeful and confident in the work the team has been developing for some time: “After the game we all went home upset, because of the reception we received. We had the enthusiasm of winning, the team is strong, we’ve been competing for weeks and playing well. A month ago we were 11 points away and it looked dark; now we are six, there are fewer games left, but we’re convinced that we can do it, starting with a win this week in Ponferradina.”

Lago trusts in the team and affirms they only focus on themselves, on winning their games. “The dressing room is strong, the message remains the same. We are two matches away. We have to play our game, win and wait for what the others do. Our focus is winning our match,” he stated.

When asked about the pressure that a reception of this size can cause, Lago is clear. “The welcome is always good. It's great to have people's support. We had the same against Cartagena, we won and we played very well. We’ll always have pressure, but it’s better with our people. If it were up to me, we would play all the games at home with our fans,” he explained.

The story of Lago and Málaga CF began in January and, despite having only been on the Costa del Sol for a few months, he has shown his love for the city and the club. “Málaga is a matter of feeling. The love for this Club, it's a feeling I have. I’ve never experienced a reception like the other day, it was incredible. If we stay up it will be like a promotion to the First Division, it’s something that I’ll never forget, seeing how difficult things are getting. I was so excited to play for Málaga. I made the decision to come here with many offers, knowing what could happen. I have passion and love for the club. The feeling of the workers towards the people... I like everything about the club,” he concluded.
