La Rosaleda pays tribute to Bustillo and Lecue

Before Málaga-Villarreal kicked off, a minute’s silence was held in memory of ex CD Málaga players, Miguel Ángel Bustillo and Emeterio Lecue, who have recently passed away.

During half-time, Club advisers, Antonio Benítez, Abdullah Ben Barek and Francisco Martín Aguilar, along with member of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, Sebastián Fernández ‘Basti’, presented the nephew of former Málaga player, Bustillo with a Blue and Whites’ shirt bearing his uncle’s name and the number ‘8’.

Emeterio Lecue Salcedo

Having passed away recently aged 94, he was born in Bilbao on 3rd September 1921.  Formed in various clubs in the Basque Country, and following time with Atlético Tetuán, he signed to CD Málaga in June 1944, playing in midfield alongside players including Junco, García and Bilbao.

He made his Third Division debut with CD Málaga against Algeciras CF (24/09/1944).  That season the Blue and Whites ended in second place in Group IX, behind RCD Córdoba.  This allowed them to take part in the Intermediate Stage, in which they came second, again behind the Córdoba rival, and subsequently out of the running for Second Division promotion.

In the 1945/46 season, Lecue was part of CD Málaga, who won the “Champion of Third Division Champions”, rising to the Second Division, and scoring 104 goals in the three competitions they participated in (League, Intermediate Stage and Final Stage).  The last match he played was on 29/04/1946 at the Vallejo ground against Levante UD, which CD Málaga lost by 4-0.

At the end of the season, and after taking part in 32 official matches with CD Málaga (18 League and 14 promotion), Lecue signed to Atlético de Madrid, debuting in the First Division and playing with the Madrid team until 1949, before leaving for Gimnàstic de Tarragona.  The following year, he moved to SD Ceuta, where he remained until 1953.
