La Rosaleda kicks off the year with Comares

Málaga CF will play their first match of 2025 against RC Deportivo. On this occasion, artist José Luis Puche delights us with a captain’s armband depicting the Baluarte La Tahoma Castle of Comares.

Málaga CF continues to strengthen ties with all regions of the province, proudly showcasing them- on the captain's armbands - at every match. The team begins this exciting year this weekend, accompanied by the Malaguistas at La Rosaleda, facing the strong rival, RC Deportivo. Matchday 22, marking the first fixture of the second half of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, will feature Comares as the main highlight.

Known as 'The Balcony of Axarquía,' Comares is one of the 31 villages that make up the Axarquía region. Its strategic location offers stunning views of both the coast and the mountainous interior of Andalucía. The village’s history is marked by Arab influence, evident in its architecture, cobblestone streets, and remnants of its fortress. This cultural heritage is one of the main tourist attractions of the municipality, which is also part of the Andalusian White Towns Route.

The economy of Comares is largely based on agriculture. Olive trees, almond trees, and vineyards are the predominant crops, thanks to the Mediterranean climate that favours these plantations. The vineyards produce grapes that are used to make the region's famous sweet wines. The production of extra virgin olive oil, highly valued for its quality, is also notable. Agriculture in Comares not only supports the local economy but also defines its rural landscape.

Tourism in Comares has grown thanks to its historical and natural charm. This village is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and a connection with nature. Notable activities include hiking routes that traverse its mountainous surroundings, such as the Gomer Route or the Ancient Olive Tree Route. Additionally, Comares is a prominent location for zip-lining, being one of the pioneering municipalities in Spain to offer this activity. Visitors can also explore the old town by following the ceramic markers on the ground, which highlight points of historical interest.

A special place to start the year. As the image for the match poster and the Malaguista captain’s armband in #MálagaDépor, artist José Luis Puche showcases his talent in recreating the Baluarte La Tahoma Castle, a large Muslim fortress that once occupied and surrounded the mountainous area of the village of Comares, where the town's cemetery is located today.
