Málaga CF and CF Intercity met on this Sunday 17th March at 12:00, enjoying an extraordinary atmosphere with 20,903 Malaguistas cheering in La Rosaleda’s stands.
For this duel, corresponding to Primera Federación matchday 28, Pellicer selected the following starting-11: A. Herrero; Puga, Nelson, Einar, Víctor García; Manu Molina, Genaro; Larrubia, Dani Lorenzo, Javier Avilés and Dioni.
The visitors got off to an intense start, but the Blue and Whites managed to forcefully contain their attempts and assumed control of the match. Málaga CF approached the rival goal on multiple occasions with high activity on the wing and fluidity in midfield. Dioni and Dani Lorenzo had several of the most significant chances but failed to score in the first 45'.
Shortly after starting the second half, Dioni accidentally collided with his teammate Dani Lorenzo. The severe contusion forced him to be taken by ambulance to Hospital Vithas Málaga. The player, who suffered a head injury, showed his consciousness by raising his thumb to calm the disgruntled fans. Dioni is currently stable and under observation.
At the start of the second half, the Blue and Whites went on the attack again to try to open the scoring and finally, in the 74th minute, they achieved their objective. Manu Molina gained possession in the three-quarter zone and assisted Dani Lorenzo who tried his luck; the goalkeeper stopped the ball in its tracks, but an unmarked Roberto finished at will to bring La Rosaleda to its feet (1-0). The fans dedicated the goal to Dioni the goal with chants from the stands.
The match had an electric finish. The referee added 11 extra minutes in which the intensity multiplied. Alfonso managed to clear a point-blank header aimed at the post. The subsequent corner also brought with it a dangerous attempt by the visitors in the heart of the area that was once again cleared by the keeper. There were no further movements on the scoreboard and the three points remain at La Rosaleda.
