Malaguista central defender, Bakary Koné took part in the Africa Cup semi-finals with Burkina Faso, losing to Egypt on penalties.
Like in the rest of the tournament, Koné, wearing the number ‘4’ shirt, was in the starting line-up in defence, playing the 120 minutes of normal time in the Burkina Faso-Egypt clash, which ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Salah (66’) for Egypt and Bance (73’) for Burkina Faso. In the penalty shoot-out, Egypt won by 3-4 to qualify to the grand final.
As such, Burkina Faso and Koné will fight for third place in the Africa Cup, taking place in Gabon. Their rival in the match to determine third and fourth place, will be the loser of the other semi-final, being held today between Cameroon and Ghana. The bronze match will take place on Saturday 4th February at 20:00.
