Kilometre 8: #MálagaMirandés

Another point…makes 14. Pellicer’s Málaga end a week of two home games, winning four out of six points at stake to sit in the top part of the table.

We look back at some of the highlights from yesterday’s match at La Rosaleda between Málaga CF and CD Mirandés (1-1):

Sevilla Connection

The first goal stemmed from Utrera and ended in Mairena del Alcor. Following a deep pass from Cristian, Matos on his return to the starting-11 provided his second assist of the season to Jozabed who moved in from the second line like a cannon. The first goal for a footballer who showed remarkable ease to arrive and kill. Pure vertigo.

Captain Lombán

The central defender from Asturias debuted in Pellicer’s starting-11 this season and did so wearing the captain’s armband. David was accompanied by Mejías and Juande in defence, playing the 90 minutes. After appearing against Zaragoza and Sporting, he completed his 40th official match as a Malaguista.

Meaningful rotations

With a jam-packed calendar full of matches, within such an unusual season and with lots of new faces, it seemed logical and almost obligatory for the coach to make the most of the resources at his disposition by giving opportunities to all the players on the squad. There were up to six changes to the starting line-up, with a special mention to the change in goal with the debut of Juan Soriano at home.

If you can’t win, don’t lose

The eternal doubt with a draw…do you gain a point or lose two? The truth is that, on a practical level, MCF added a point that took the team to 4th place in the table with 14 points. With a +7-point advantage on the positions marking permanence and immersed in the playoff positions. The team has achieved eight out of the last 12 points following the defeat in Vallecas. The stats don’t lie. Yesterday’s point was a good one.
