Kilometre 40: The renewed strength of the fortress

Málaga CF won the second consecutive match at La Rosaleda, following the triumphs against Oviedo and Zaragoza, asserting the power of the link between the team and the fans.

The 3-1 victory, with a comeback included, against Real Zaragoza left us a number of highlights that we review here in our particular kilometre:

Goals, goals and more goals

It’s no secret that since the arrival of Víctor Sánchez del Amo the attacking power of the Blue and White squad has been reinforced. Following the prolific debut in Alcorcón with four goals scored, in the last two home games the team has scored three goals in each. Not taking into account the ‘non-match’ (0-1) against Reus, Víctor’s Málaga has scored 11 goals in five matches. This is an average of more than two per game. The best defence, a good attack.

Beautiful fight for the ‘pichichi’

Blanco Leschuk and Adrián, Adrián and Blanco Leschuk. The attacking duo continues to expand their records. The Argentine striker netted his ninth goal of the season and continued with his particular idyll at La Rosaleda, where he’s scored all of his nine goals. Meanwhile, the Madrid-born player scored the winner, his 10th so far this season, beating his best scoring number as a professional. Between them both, they’ve scored 19 of the team’s 46 league goals (41.3%).

Renato’s moment

The Portuguese player has reached the end of the season on top form. An undisputed member of the starting-11 since the arrival of Víctor, his performance and confidence have grown under the Madrid-born manager. The scoring of the 1-1 against Zaragoza, which was key to the comeback, the winger has now scored two goals and given three assists in the current league. Renato Santos, at his best.

Return of Pacheco

It was exactly two months since his last match, curiously when he made his scoring debut with Málaga CF in the 0-1 win in Tarragona. Dani Pacheco came on in minute 64, midway through the #MálagaRealZaragoza second half in substitution of Álex Mula. When in tune, his quality and experience at similar times when there’s a boost in gameplay, can be vital in achieving the objective.

The fans never fail

In the run-up to this match, a solemn tribute was paid to the Pérez Frías brothers, for their 40 years of service to the Club. In addition, the hymn sung a cappella made your hair stand on end. Committed to lifting the team’s spirits when things weren’t going the right way, and effervescent with the goals that led the team to a stunning comeback. Grateful with the effort made and euphoric with the 3-1 result. Yes, we’ve definitely got first-class fans.

Pending Dépor-Mallorca

A win for Málaga this matchday and, in addition, the lads increased their advantage over Cádiz following the Yellows’ draw in Granada. The Blue and Whites, provisionally in fourth place in the table, will be keeping a close eye on the final clash of matchday 40 between RC Deportivo and RCD Mallorca. If the Galician outfit loses, MCF will have mathematically qualified to the promotion playoffs to LaLiga Santander.
