Kilometre 36: Málaga-Cartagena

Málaga Club de Fútbol defeated FC Cartagena thanks to the push from the fans, achieving their second consecutive victory and the third in the last four LaLiga SmartBank games.

#MálagaCartagena left us some unforgettable moments which we take at look at here:

Chavarría’s moment

The Argentinean striker is being decisive in the final stretch of the season. Yesterday he opened the scoring again, as he did in the last match in Vila-real, with a stunning goal. He has scored five goals already this season, the second highest scorer after Rubén Castro (9). He has scored three in the last four games, counting “everyone's goal” that sealed the win against Leganés at home (2-0). This is his best moment.

The long-awaited second win on the bounce

We really needed it! Málaga CF have secured two consecutive victories for the first time this season. After the 1-2 victory at La Cerámica, against Villarreal B, yesterday's 1-0 win against Cartagena gives a tremendous boost to the fight for permanence. The last time we won two games in a row, during the 21/22 season, was at La Rosaleda against CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas on matchdays 16 and 17.

The fans are incredible.

What a reception for the team as the bus arrived at the stadium. A spectacular Blue and White mosaic like that of the great football days in Málaga. The stands were bursting, with the fans quoting Pellicer’s words, carrying the team through the 90 minutes of play. In short, more than 25,000 people made themselves the player number ‘12’, winning matches with the fans’ support. You are all amazing, Malaguistas.

19th place and rivals for permanence

This is no trivial matter. Málaga have 36 points, tied with Ponferradina in the table, with the best balance of goals for and against, moving up one place in the table. Ahead, Real Racing Club marks safety with +5 points over MCF, although the Cantabrians have the goal average in their favour. Six points away, CD Mirandés play today away to Levante UD, and if the latter win, they would equal Granada CF in second place. The swords are still held high and Málaga is in the fight.
