Juanpe: “It's a bittersweet feeling, but not a step back”

The Málaga midfielder, who returned to the starting-11 today, appeared in the mixed zone at the Nuevo Mirador. “The fans are always with us; it's an honour to play for them because they support us,” he said.

Match analysis

It's a bittersweet feeling because the team gives everything. We had a very good first half where we could have scored. We lacked a bit more verticality in the second half, and the team couldn't work out how to trouble the rival.”

Personal situation

It's been an irregular season, but now I'm getting back on form. I've arrived at the crucial stretch to help. We need to get minutes and rhythm.”

Contribution to the group

I felt good, I contributed to the team. I'm not a hundred percent, but these minutes are important to gain confidence and help the team.”

Conclusions

In the first half, we dominated, but then the eagerness to take the lead got the better of us. It's definitely not a step back just because we didn't get two more points. We kept a clean sheet; now we have two home games where we have to go all out, be more vertical, and more consistent in front of goal. And at La Rosaleda, we're doing that.”

Opportunities

In the first half, we did test the goalkeeper, but in the second half, we struggled against Algeciras, who were defending deep, and they posed more threat than us. We need to continue in the same vein as the first half, and at La Rosaleda, we have to give our all.”

Day to day

We must focus on ourselves, take it one match at a time, and that will put us where we need to be.”

Fans

The fans are always with us, it's an honour to play for them, they support us, and we can’t wait to play at La Rosaleda.”

Team’s commitment

The team gives their all; we tried. We will give everything; we'll go to La Rosaleda next weekend to win.”
