Jesús Gámez: “We had a lot of options in this match”

Málaga CF’s Weligton, Camacho, Jesús Gámez and Kameni were interviewed by MCF TV in the mixed zone following the match against Sevilla FC.

Weligton

“It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, so in that sense it’s not great.  However, on a positive note, we played well against an extremely competitive rival.  We showed a good dynamic tonight and we were all motivated to perform as well as we possibly could, so I’m pleased from that aspect.”

Camacho

“The match tonight was a little crazy to be honest.  Sevilla really stepped up their attack, and they’ve got some very quick players on the pitch who perform well upfront.  We were the stronger side to start off with, and created numerous goal opportunities, however it was a very physical game which took its toll towards the end as we kept running up and down as we lost possession.  The second half was very much an attack-defence game; Sevilla had some good chances to score, as did we.  It was a shame the hand ball wasn’t called in the first half, as the match could have been very different, but I think we played well and gave it our all in front of our fans.  We need to focus on the remaining two matches now and gain the much-needed points.”

Jesús Gámez

“We watched it on television and it was a clear penalty which would have altered the entire rhythm of play, but unfortunately it was ignored.  There were a number of actions following that, but the referee seemed to completely disregard anything that appeared to be in our favour.  We had a lot of options in this match, but only managed a draw.  However we’ll continue on in our fight to qualify for Europe, but Sevilla have to win every remaining match now, so they have it a bit more difficult.”

Kameni

“We played well, following a difficult week and losing to Madrid on Wednesday.  We came up against a tough Sevilla side tonight, and I think a draw was a fair result.  I’m pleased with our performance and how well we coped under a lot of pressure.”
