Málaga CF’s Jesús Gámez, Javier Saviola and Julio Baptista spoke to MCF TV in the mixed zone following the match against Deportivo de La Coruña.
Jesús Gámez
The ‘Malagueño’ winger highlights the importance of victory and how emotional this match was: “The game got off to a difficult start, and Deportivo were really giving it their all in their fight against relegation. It was a very physical match for both sides at first, but we managed to open the scoring and took it from there. It’s been a very emotional day, but I think we all gave Pellegrini the perfect send-off with this win, and the fans really enjoyed it too.”
Ahead of next weekend’s match against FC Barcelona, Gámez states: “There’s going to be a real party atmosphere at the Nou Camp on Saturday, with Barça hoping to reach the 100-point mark. It’s going to be a tough match, but we’ve played well against Barcelona this season, so anything’s possible.”
Baptista
The striker adds: “We played a great match tonight. We’ve had some incredible moments at this stadium throughout the season that we’ll never forget, and the connection between the team and the fans is amazing. It was so important to us to give our fans the best match possible tonight, we were determined to keep the three points at home and make our last home game of the season as entertaining as possible.”
Saviola
The Argentinean-born striker, who scored the first goal against Deportivo, stresses the importance of qualifying for Europe: “We knew we were up against a team determined to avoid relegation, with some quality players. However we were also determined to seal our European qualification next season, and we did it. It’s been a truly unforgettable year.”
“It’s been very emotional for everyone, but I think the fans are the ones who’ve really spurred us on in order to achieve so much this year. It was a real celebration tonight, both with a great win and giving our fans a great game.”
