Javi Gracia: “This victory is priceless”

“This victory, against a team in the running for Champions League positions, is priceless in motivating the team to keep working together until the end and enjoying what we do.” Javi Guerra analyses Málaga CF’s win tonight against Valencia CF.

The Navarran-born manager is pleased “we played a complete match.  We deserved to win, and although we were capable of scoring more goals, I’m so happy I saw the old team back in action tonight.  We regained certain skills we haven’t seen for a while, more break, increased depth, greater aggression when pressurising the rival…the boys had fun tonight, enjoyed playing at home and the atmosphere in the stadium was amazing.  We need to make sure we enjoy every minute of the remainder of the League competition and aspire to achieve as much as we can.”

Following the Copa del Rey elimination, Málaga CF is solely focused on the League: “We performed well in the first round of the League competition and now have earned one point more than this time in the first round.  Even though we’ve had a tough January, with injuries and the departure of players, we can now concentrate on improving preparations for each match throughout the week.”

Javi Gracia evaluates the start of 2015: “Sevilla and Villarreal were difficult rivals, as were Valencia, and we’ve shown that despite playing well, we’ve lost certain matches.  However the team has never been under-par or deserved a poor result in any game we’ve played.  We always compete to the max, and some days turn out better than others.”  It is then that the coach asks for “understanding.  In regular competition we need to be demanding and always seek improvement, but during the tough times we need recognition and understanding.”
