Izan Merino made his debut yesterday with Spain in the group stage of the European Under-17 Championship. The Malaguista played the entire match against Italy, participating in Spain's comeback (1-2).
Spain kicked off the competition with a hard-fought win against the Italian team on matchday 1 of Group B in the Under-17 European Championship in Hungary.
Coach Julen Guerrero, suspended from this match (his assistant Vicente Engonga acted as coach at the foot of the pitch), had Izan Merino as a starter in Spain’s midfield.
The MCF Academy player, wearing the number '14' jersey, was playing as a defensive pivot, putting on a notable performance during the 90 minutes of play.
Italy took the lead with a goal from Galli (1-0, 15’), whilst Spain came from behind in the second half to win by 1-2 with a brace from Marc Guiu (53’ and 75’), to claim the three points.
Spain’s next rival in the tournament is Slovenia, who defeated Serbia by 2-4 in the other group match. The match against Slovenia will take place this Sunday 21st May at 16:30.
