Intense duel decided by Carmen (1-0)

Málaga CF defeated UD Almería on matchday 23 of Primera Nacional Femenina. A goal in the second half by Carmen Gómez led the Blue and Whites to victory.

Before kick-off there was a wonderful display of Fair Play from Almería with a guard of honour to congratulate our champions. It was a chilly Saturday afternoon at Roma Luz and, on the pitch, Ayala made several changes. The starting line-up consisted of Andrea Ríos in goal; Marina, Silvia Mérida, Olmedo and Yoli in defence; María Cortés and Clo on the double pivot with Judith and Torralvo on the wings; whilst Futu and Carmen Gómez were upfront.

UD Almería got off to a determined start, being the only team this season, along with Santa Teresa ‘B’ to impede a league win for MCFF (the first round match ended in a 3-3 draw). Half an hour into play, the visitors generated a great chance to go in front, forcing a superb save from Andrea Ríos to prevent the 0-1. At half-time the scoreboard remained at 0-0.

The match stayed even between both sides as the second half got underway in this intense duel of Andalusian rivalry. However, the Blue and Whites’ competitive gene tipped the balance. In 74’, an action by Bertuchi led to an assist for Carmen Gómez, and the striker from Ojén didn’t disappoint, putting the girls 1-0 up. Goal number 13 in the League for MCFF’s second highest goal-scorer after Sonia Torralvo.

The Malaguista champions now have 65 points from 21 victories and two draws out of 23 games in the domestic competition. Next week the girls are away to Cádiz CF in the antepenultimate match of the 21/22 season.
