Husillos returns as the Club’s sports director

The Board of Directors of Málaga Club de Fútbol has named Mario Armando Husillos as the new sports director, who replaces Francesc Arnau in the position.

Mario Husillos, born in Morón (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in 1959, has accumulated ample experience within the heart of the Club during five seasons as a Blue and Whites’ player, and one as a coach in Second B in the 2006/07 season.

Husillos returns to the Club as sports director after having been in this role between 2012 and 2015. In the 2012/13 season, Husillos was sports director of a team which, with Manuel Pellegrini at the helm, reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, and ended the League competition in sixth place. Under his directorship, players such as Roque Santa Cruz and Javier Saviola came to take MCF to its highest levels in history.

The following season, 2013/14, Husillos steered a good sporting transition, which in the winter transfer market saw the signing of Amrabat to reach the marked objectives. The following campaign, with Javi Gracia as coach, he successfully formed a block of experienced players and young homegrown footballers from the youth ranks. The result, an excellent ninth position in the League after skirting European positions throughout 2014/15, bringing more sporting stability to Málaga CF.

Previously, Mario Husillos was sports director of reigning Greek Super League champions, and a classic in recent editions of the UEFA Champions League, Olympiakos FC. After reaching an agreement to leave the Greek outfit, he takes the reins as MCF’s sports director to assume a new project in his career.

With great knowledge of the Club and the world of football in all areas, Husillos returns home to put his dedication, work and commitment at the disposal of the Martiricos entity.

Arnau, 16 years of service at the Club

Francesc Arnau Grabalosa, after beginning his football training at FC Barcelona, developed his sporting career with Málaga CF, being part of the first team for a total of 10 seasons.

Retired from professional practice, Arnau occupied the position of joint director of the Academy, alongside coordinator, Manel Casanova. In December 2015, he was chosen by the Club to be sports director, where he remained for the following two years.

Málaga CF would like to thank Francesc Arnau for his hard work within the Club over the years, wishing him every success for the future.
