Humilladero to feature in match against Levante UD

Málaga CF continue to demonstrate their strong commitment to the towns of the Costa del Sol. Renowned artist José Luis Puche surprises us with a magnificent depiction of the Laguna de la Ratosa in Humilladero.

Málaga CF will face Levante UD at La Rosaleda on Saturday 8th February at 18:30. For this exciting LALIGA HYPERMOTION matchday 26 fixture, the town of Humilladero will take centre stage in the match's poster design and on the captain's armband.

Nestled among gentle fields of olive trees and grain in the northern Antequera region, Humilladero rests under the shadow of its sierra, where green pine forests bring freshness and colour to a tranquil landscape.

In the 15th century, around the estate of El Convento, the picturesque village of Humilladero was born. Its name evokes the solemn vow made by Infante Don Fernando, who, upon receiving the sword of Saint Fernando during the conquest of Antequera, promised not to rest until he seized the city. For centuries, it remained a modest suburb of Antequera until it gained independence as a municipality in 1810.

This charming town, with its wide streets and whitewashed houses that reflect the sunlight, is graced by its most iconic monument: the parish church of the Virgen del Rosario. The church features a façade adorned with pilasters and a pediment, as well as a square tower whose bells echo through the village, captivating visitors. Nearby, some artificial caves preserve remnants from the Muslim era, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into a history that continues to endure.

Every dish in Humilladero reflects the region's deep-rooted traditions, where olive oil and flour form the foundation for culinary delights such as porra, gazpacho, cured meats (chacinas), and hearty stews like guiso de patas. The iconic migas, often served with seasonal fruits, and traditional sweets like pestiños and roscos, bring a touch of sweetness to the table. These flavours are perfectly complemented by wines from ‘Tierras de Mollina’ and the Málaga Vineyards.

Good times, great company, and plenty of fun are what truly matter in Humilladero - a spirit that shines through in every festivity. On 7th October, they celebrate the Virgen del Rosario with heartfelt devotion. On 24th June, the San Juan Fair fills the town with music and laughter. And in August, the Emigrant Fair honours those who left in search of a new future.

José Luis Puche once again showcases his talent by capturing the unique essence of our beloved municipality. His artistry will be featured in the creation of the captain's armband and the design of the poster for the upcoming match against Levante UD.

The talented Costa del Sol artist José Luis Puche has masterfully depicted the Laguna de la Ratosa, offering an expressionist interpretation that captures the essence of this natural wonder. With vibrant strokes and intense colours, his work conveys the serene, raw beauty of the lagoon, where its waters reflect nature in its purest form.
