Historic round table reviews 120 years of Malaguismo
As part of Málaga CF's celebration of the 120th anniversary of football in the city, Manuel Castillo, Antonio Méndez, Ismael Díaz, Javier Gracia, Esteban Vigo and José María Movilla reviewed Malaguista history in a round table to remember.
The 3rd of April 2024 is a very special day for Malaguismo. 120 years ago, the first football match was played on the Costa del Sol, where a feeling was born that has accompanied and continues to accompany thousands of Malaguistas. A feeling that today is more alive than ever and that has experienced various phases and countless experiences.
On the occasion of this 120th anniversary, six protagonists of these experiences discussed Malaguismo. Manuel Castillo, director of Diario SUR; Antonio Méndez, director of Málaga Hoy; Ismael Díaz and Javier Gracia, former Málaga CF coaches; and Esteban Vigo and José María Movilla, former Blue and White players, met at Centro Cultural La Malagueta to form a historical round table.
The event began with a video screening on the timeline of these 120 years of football on the Costa del Sol. After that, and under the moderation of Sergio Cortés, the speakers provided those present with a compilation of incredible Blue and White anecdotes.
Representing Málaga CF at the event were José María Muñoz, judicial administrator; Kike Pérez, general manager; Loren Juarros, sporting director; Francisco Martín Aguilar, Protocol and Institutional Relations adviser; Abdallah Ben Barek and José Antonio Ruiz Guerra, advisers; Jesús Gámez, ambassador; and Sebastián Fernández 'Basti', member of the MCF Foundation.
In addition, Centro Cultural La Malagueta was attended by the Malaguista Senate - representing the entity's oldest season ticket holders - former players, special guests and Málaga CF fans who gathered for this very special event.
The speakers talked about the evolution of football in Málaga over these 120 years and contributed their vision on the importance of this event. Relegations, promotions, continental competitions and a common denominator: the Malaguista fans.
A beautiful review of football in a city that still has many stories to tell. Happy 120th anniversary, Málaga.
