Hard-fought, prestigious victory at Son Moix (1-2)

Málaga CF defeated RCD Mallorca with goals from Harper and Cifu, the latter arrived just when a draw appeared inevitable.

The fifth and sixth-place teams faced one another at Estadio de Son Moix. Malaguista coach Juan Ramón López Muñiz only introduced two changes to the starting-11 in relation to the previous league game. Adrián, who was absent against Granada CF, returned to the 11 to accompany N’Diaye on the double pivot. The other new addition was Dani Pacheco, who took the place of Ontiveros on the left profile of the attack. Málaga CF started off as the better-positioned side and generated the most promising chances in the opening stages. Diego González came close to an opening chance after four minutes, with Mallorca replicating in minute 8. The goal was disallowed for being offside. The referee showed Adrián the yellow card (9’) along with Pacheco (22’). Four minutes later, Munir saved a header from Raillo that found its way to the target. The locals took possession of the ball in the final stretch of the first half and created a number of occasions disrupted by the Blue and White keeper. Harper put Málaga CF in front before the half-time whistle, making the most of a rebound in the area from a corner (0-1).

The second half got underway with no changes for either side. Mallorca went out in search of an equaliser and had various dangerous approaches, although not causing too much trouble for Munir. In 60’ the first substitution of the game took place. Muñiz brought on Ontiveros in place of Juanpi to bring more speed to the right wing. In the 72nd minute the locals went level with a goal from Álex López. Immediately afterwards, Lacen joined play in substitution of Adrián. Ontiveros enjoyed a great chance to put his team in front, but the rival keeper sent the ball to a corner with a good clearance. In minute 84 the Malaguistas scored their second goal. A counter-attack driven by Pacheco, assisting Blanco Leschuk who set up a good ball for Ontiveros. The Marbella-born winger clocked the arrival of Cifu and with a superb assist Cifu found the net to put the visitors back in the lead (1-2). The home side kept insisting until the final minute of play, but victory went to the Malaguistas.
