Gracia: “We need to compete with more calm”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference following the match against Valencia CF: “It’s important to focus on what will help us to improve, I understand we feel wronged, but we can’t fall into that mistake.”

Match analysis

“We started off well and took the lead thanks to our good game play.  Cop’s injury marked our development of the match, and changed the tight pressure we maintained.  There are actions that determine the game, the rival’s goal came from a clear stamp on Kameni, and then subsequent decisions were made that gradually took the game away from us.”

Own mistakes

“As we were losing the game we were playing worse, with a great deal of heart, but without fluidity on our part.  We didn’t play our best match today, so we’ll try to do better in the next one.”

Referee’s action

“I don’t think it’s fair to analyse the match exclusively from the referee’s actions.  It wasn’t our best game.  We need to compete with more calm.  I’m understanding of the referee’s job, I think it’s extremely difficult, but when you feel wronged, certain behaviour is normal.  We’ll continue trying to show our best behaviour in future, and help the refs.”

Need to win

“It’s important to focus on what will help us to improve, I understand we feel wronged, but we can’t fall into that mistake.  We feel like we could have achieved better results in recent games, but we’re entering into the point of the season where feelings don’t come into it.  We need to win and earn points, that’s the right way to compete, not concentrating on things that aren’t going to help us.”
