Good start to the pre-season

Victory for Málaga CF away to Vélez CF, by 0-2, at the Vivar Téllez. An own goal from Álex Portillo and another from Jairo led the Malaguistas to a win in this pre-season debut clash.

Following the first days of training after the holidays, the Vivar Téllez Stadium hosted Málaga Club de Fútbol’s first pre-season match, against Vélez Club de Fútbol. José Alberto’s starting-11 was made up of Dani Barrio, Alexander, Murillo, Moussa, Javi Jiménez, Escassi, Ismael Gutiérrez, Jairo, Larrubia, Kevin and Roberto.

The game got off to an intense start and the high pressure from the Malaguista squad led to the Álex Portillo own goal in the first play, putting the visitors 0-1 up in the first minute. Despite the advantage on the scoreboard, Málaga CF continued with their approach, piling the pressure on and seeking verticality.

Around the 23rd minute, the Blue and Whites gained possession in midfield and connected with Larrubia, who enabled Jairo to score the second goal of the game. Immediately afterwards, Brandon and Quintana came on in place of Escassi and Jairo. The intensity continued throughout the first half, but without any clear opportunities.

In the second half, there was an almost completely new Malaguista line-up. Dani Barrio and Larrubia remained and were accompanied by Benítez, Andrés Caro, Juande, Cristo, Quintana, Benkhemassa, Julio, Hicham and Loren Zuñiga. Jozabed and Haitam joined play in minute 60, replacing Quintana and Larrubia, who were highly active and participative during their time on the pitch.

The Moroccan winger enjoyed the best opportunities of the second half, putting on an electric performance. Five minutes later, around 65’, Lombán and Luis Muñoz stepped on to the pitch to play their first minutes of the pre-season, substituting Juande and Benkhemassa. In the closing stages. Moussa replaced Julio, who suffered a blow to the ankle.

Málaga CF kicks off the pre-season with a victory (0-2) to boost the team’s confidence and serve to continue preparations for the league debut on 16th August at La Rosaleda Stadium. Pressure and competitiveness shown on the field of play highlighted the team’s good line of work that will continue on Saturday 24th at 19:00 at the Federación Malagueña ground against Sevilla Atlétic.
