Goals from Sansone in the final stretch prevent points (2-0)
Málaga CF suffered a defeat by Villarreal CF at Estadio de la Cerámica, on LaLiga Santander matchday 11. Two goals in the second half from Italian-born Sansone led the locals to victory.
In the initial minutes of play, the local side, coached by former Malaguista player, Javi Calleja came out to impose their usual style of combinative play in midfield, against a well-planted Málaga in which Míchel repeated the same 11 that beat Celta last weekend at La Rosaleda.
The match reached the midway point of the first half with barely any arrivals to Barbosa or Roberto’s goal areas. It was in minute 26 when Villarreal generated a real danger of goal, with Bakambu scoring from an offside position that was disallowed by the referee.
In the final stretch of the first half, it was MCF who began to appear more on the wings, with Juankar and Rosales reinforcing the attacking lanes occupied by an active Chory and Keko. In minute 39, the right-winger tried his luck with a low shot to the left post. At half-time, the score was 0-0.
In the second half, Villarreal tried to instil more pace to their attacks, although the tactical order of Málaga impeded Calleja’s men to create promising opportunities. In the 52nd minute, homegrown player, Chuca, with a dangerous shot at goal, put Roberto to the test. Peñaranda responded in 54’ with a precise header that proved a troublesome save for Barbosa.
The locals took the lead thanks to an action that stemmed from a more than possible offside position, leading to a Sansone goal (1-0, 68’). Immediately afterwards, Málaga CF made their first substitution, brining on En-Nesyri in place of Juanpi. In 75’, Jony replaced ‘Chory’ Castro on the left wing. Sansone, who started off on the bench, scored again in a rapid counter-attack (2-0, 76’).
Míchel used up all his changes by introducing Borja for Keko in the 80th minute. Recio, in 83’, was shown the yellow card that carries federative suspension. The team was unable to come back from the adverse result, and it will be at La Rosaleda against Deportivo, in two weeks, when they’ll resume the fight for their second LaLiga victory.
