Genius, hard work and versatility with Genaro

Málaga CF have signed Genaro Rodríguez, who arrives on a free transfer after being with CD Mirandés, with a year’s contract and the option of another.

Genaro Rodríguez Serrano (Sevilla, 1998) is a versatile player who can perform as a centre-back or defensive pivot. He grew up in the Sevilla FC youth ranks, staying there for a decade until he reached ‘Juvenil’ age in 2017.

At senior level, he made his Liga SmartBank debut just before his 20th birthday with Sevilla Atlético in the 17/28 season. The following two years, with Sevilla’s reserve team, he played 39 matches (35 in the starting line-up) in the bronze division of Spanish football.

Genaro made his first team debut with Sevilla in the 19/20 season, playing a UEFA Europa League match. On his record is the European title won by Julen Lopetegui’s team after defeating Inter Milan in the final.

Last season the new Blue and White defender signed to CD Mirandés, where he coincided with his new teammate Javi Jiménez and coach, José Alberto López. In 20/21, Genaro played a total of 21 games with this team (20 in the League and one Copa del Rey match).

At the start of his career, Genaro was part of Spain’s Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20s teams.

A new arrival to the Club who brings ambition and a desire to win at La Rosaleda. Welcome to Málaga CF! Lots of luck Genaro!
