Fuenlabrada, kilometre 16

Another away win for Pellicer’s Málaga in LaLiga SmartBank. This time around it was against CF Fuenlabrada, who lost their unbeaten streak at home against the imperial Blue and Whites.

#FuenlaMálaga left us endless positives that we take a look at in more detail here:

Why not?

Yanis Rahmani has had an incredible start to the season. The electric left-winger was an absolute star of the 0-2 win at the Fernando Torres. He opened the scoring by heading a superb pass from Joaquín and carried the full weight of play that led to the second goal converted by Ramón. His motto ‘why not?’ symbolises his hunger to continue growing. Up to now he’s racked up two goals and four assists.

Ramón’s pass to goal

Some call him doctor pass in honour of his high percentage of accuracy in passing to his teammates. But Ramón is more, much more. His defensive and physical improvement, combined with his technical quality, have made him a regular in the core of midfield, almost always alongside his homegrown teammate, Luis Muñoz. And when karma is in favour, he even scores after leaving the bench in the final minutes. Nice work.

Quintana’s debut

The player from Trabuco’s long-awaited dream has come true. He has made his debut with the first team in an official match. His excellent performance with Malagueño this season, even scoring two goals with the reserve team, was bound to lead to his first team debut sooner rather than later. He joined play in minute 83’ in place of Luis to play the final minutes of the match and savour the well-deserved three points. Quintana, a true product of the MCF Academy.

Blessed rotations!

Pellicer explained it perfectly in the pre-match press conference. In today’s football, incredibly physical, with a match-packed calendar, the threat of COVID, injuries…it’s impossible to maintain a consistent starting-11. You need to maximise resources and yes, it’s essential, intelligent and effective to rotate the elements you have and propose continuous tactical alternatives to make you unpredictable to the rival. In addition, obviously, you make sure the players don’t burn out and make sure they are fresh and primed for every battle. There were seven changes to the 11 in Fuenlabrada. The team rotations are the great truth about the chameleon that is Pellicer.

25 points

Words just aren’t enough. Simply outstanding and irrefutable. In shape and substance. Málaga CF is the second best team in the league away from home, winning 16 points away from the total of 25 and defeating Fuenlabrada who had not lost in their first seven home games. Half of the work is done at the beginning of December! Thanks to the humility, enthusiasm and ambition of a newly created team that has no limits in its room for improvement. We can’t help but to look up. What a team.
