Málaga CF Femenino were defeated by Sporting Club de Huelva in the second round of the Copa de la Reina, bringing their 2025/26 campaign in the competition to an end.
It was a hot Wednesday afternoon at the Antonio Toledo Sánchez Stadium, with Málaga CF coming off a first-round victory over Real Betis Balompié, facing a local side that won the tournament in 2015 and has deep roots in the Copa de la Reina.
Up to four players from the reserve team featured, highlighted by Jimena’s debut in goal for the first team, in a lineup full of young talent and homegrown players.
The Huelva side created a couple of good chances in the first half-hour, all well dealt with by Jimena. By half-time, the score remained 0-0.
In the second half, the home side broke the deadlock. Andrea scored in the 57th minute to make it 1-0. Late in the match, a shot from Sarai deflected off a Málaga player (2-0, 83’), followed by a direct free-kick from Morales (3-0, 86’), which sealed the victory and sent Huelva through to the third round.
Málaga CF Femenino will return to action later this week in Group 3 of the Segunda Federación at the Ciudad Deportiva Fundación MCF. They will face CD Getafe Femenino on Sunday 5th October at 17:00.
