FC Nitra-Málaga CF opens the UEFA Youth League

The Juvenil División de Honor will debut in the UEFA Champions League in this category against FC Nitra from Slovakia, on 28th September in the central European country.

Sergio Pellicer’s team now knows their UEFA Youth League rival.  Málaga CF’s Juvenil División de Honor team will head to Slovakia on 28th September (Wednesday) to face FC Nitra, in the first leg of the first round of the European competition.  The return leg will take place on 19th October in Málaga, although the dates may vary with agreement from both clubs.

Should they qualify, the Blue and Whites will then face the winner of the tie between RSC Anderlecht - FC Midtjylland, on 2nd and 23rd November.

The MCF Academy team qualified for the continental competition after winning the Spanish championships in May in Vera, Almería.

UYL Format

Within the UEFA Youth League, 64 teams compete, divided into two large groups.  On the one hand, those whose senior teams already compete in the UEFA Champions League will take part, with the same format (group stage).  On the other hand, the 32 national championship winners will compete, including Málaga CF, in a two-leg knockout round.

On 12th December, a draw will be held in which the eight domestic champion route qualifying teams will face the eight UEFA Champions League route runners-up, in one-off ties (7th/8th February), to decide the eight remaining round of 16 places.  The semi-final (21st April) and the final (24th April) will be held in Nyon, Switzerland.
