Antonio Fernández Benítez was a Blue and White legend. He has left an unparalleled legacy, with record numbers as a player and coach. A giant of a sporting figure. This is the best-known side to Antonio. However, those of us who knew him attest that he was also a close, endearing person. With a great sense of humour - and a certain sarcastic touch – he was always generous with advice and a great conversationalist.
Benítez shared many moments at La Rosaleda’s offices during his last stage at the Club as an adviser. He always encouraged the staff in difficult times and kept their feet on the ground during the good times. Funny and sincere, he never hesitated to say what was on his mind. A strong personality that earned him the affection and respect of his colleagues who, in an emotional and private tribute, said their last goodbyes.
