Farewell, Pepe

This Sunday 5th January, Málaga CF’s legendary former pitch delegate, José González Torres passed away. The Club expresses deepest condolences to family, colleagues and friends. RIP.

Born in Málaga on 28th March 1938, González Torres dedicated his life to refereeing for 26 years, reaching the Second Division and Second B Division at the end of the 70s. He was also President of the Málaga School of Referees and Delegate of the Technical Committee of Referees.

In 1994, via Federico Beltrán, he joined the Club when Málaga CF was debuting this name. First as Chief of Security and, subsequently Pitch Delegate, a position he held for close to two decades. In addition, he promoted Malaguismo throughout the province by inviting students from schools all over Málaga.

Due to his age, he left Málaga CF in 2010, highly honoured by the Club. Also, in October 2010, in recognition of his work, the referees’ dressing room at La Rosaleda was named after him, 'Vestuario Arbitral Pepe González Torres'.

An honorary member of the Malaguista Family now rests in peace. Farewell, Pepe.
