Ex Malaguista player, Fidel Uriarte passes away

This Monday 19th December, former CD Málaga player between 1974 and 1977, Fidel Uriarte Macho passed away. The Club expresses deepest condolences to Fidel’s family and friends. Rest in Peace.

Fidel Uriarte Macho was born in Sestao (Vizcaya) on 1st March 1945.  He was formed within Athletic Club’s youth ranks, making his First Division debut at La Rosaleda against CD Málaga on 23rd September 1962, which ended in a Malaguista victory by 2-0.  An historic goal-scorer with Athletic, he was named ‘Pichichi’ in the 1967/68 season, scoring 22 goals in 24 games.  He was also an international, playing nine matches with Spain.

Following 12 seasons with the Vizcaya-based club, in 1974/75 he signed to CD Málaga.  Curiously, his first official match was against Athletic Club at La Rosaleda, on 7th September 1974, resulting in a 2-0 win for Málaga.  With the Blue and Whites, where he remained for three seasons, he played as a midfielder and also a central defender.  Fidel played 55 official games with CD Málaga (46 in LaLiga), scoring one goal.

After leaving the Malaguista discipline and hanging up his boots, he coached teams such as Sestao SC, Bilbao Athletic and Villarreal CF.
