Escassi: “The team gave everything”

The Blue and White defender held a press conference following the LaLiga SmartBank matchday 18 fixture at the Ciudad de Valencia. “Now the goal areas are in charge and they’re punishing us a great deal. You have to keep working and focus on the positives,

Escassi said that, despite the defeat and the urgent need to win the three points, “we have to stay positive. The team gave everything, defensively we were very strong against Levante whom I only remember hit the post in the first half and then got the goal,” he commented.

The rival goal, scored by Iborra in minute 62, is attributed to “an oversight” the team can ill-afford to make. “The play ended in a shot that hit the crossbar and then fell to his head. At this point in the season where we’re at, any mistake or lack of concentration is punishing us greatly,” explained Alberto.

However, he insists that “it’s all about the positives” and they had their options: “Rubén had a chance in the first half, the disallowed goal, two shots by Fomba, the last one by Lorén… Now the goal areas are in charge and they’re punishing us a great deal. You have to keep working, focus on the positives and correct the negatives,” he pointed out.

In regard to the midweek fixture that’s coming up, Escassi affirmed that “Thursday is a final.” As such, he ended his press conference with a message to the Malaguistas: “The points have to stay at La Rosaleda, whatever happens. We urgently need them, and I’d like to appeal to all the fans. We only have words of thanks for all their unconditional support. It's a very important match and I hope the people will be there cheering the team on as we really need them.”
