Málaga ended the 2016/17 pre-season undefeated after 12 matches (4 of which were 45-minute games), accumulating 10 victories and 2 draws, in a journey that began when the team returned to training on 8th July.
On 16th July, Málaga CF played the first friendly against Algeciras CF, ending in a 0-4 win. Home grown player, En-Nesyri scored a double, and became the highest scorer of the pre-season, with 6 goals.
Days later, the team headed to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. A tour of Central Europe that ended on 30th July, when the team defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf by 2-3.
One of the highlights was winning the Carranza Cup, with a 1-2 victory in the final against Cádiz CF; along with the Costa del Sol Cup for the second consecutive year, after defeating UC Sampdoria by 4-2 on penalties.
