Málaga CF's two goalkeepers, Alfonso Herrero and Carlos López, have extended their contracts until 2028 and 2029, respectively. The club secures continuity in a key position with one of its captains and a promising homegrown talent.
Málaga CF's first team will remain in the best possible hands in the coming years thanks to the contract extensions of their goalkeepers, Alfonso Herrero and Carlos López.
The Toledo-born goalkeeper was originally under contract until 2026 but has renewed for two additional seasons, extending his stay until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
Alfonso Herrero joined the club from CD Mirandés in the summer of 2023, becoming a cornerstone of the squad and a fan favourite thanks to his consistency and decisive saves. His role in the promotion to LALIGA HYPERMOTION was crucial, even scoring an improbable goal that secured an epic point in San Fernando. He played every minute of every league and promotion playoff match. In the current 2024/25 season, he has also played every game in the Second Division, leading the league in saves and ranking high in the race for the prestigious Zamora Trophy.
In addition, Carlos López was initially under contract with MCF until 2027 but, like his teammate, has extended his deal by two seasons, now running until 2028/29.
The young Málaga-born goalkeeper is a true ‘One Club Man,’ having only worn the club's Blue and White colours throughout his career, from the Pre-Benjamín category to the senior team. In the 2021/22 season, he made the leap from Juvenil 'A' to Atlético Malagueño, becoming the undisputed starter in 2022/23 at just 18 years old. With a first-team registration since the 2023/24 season, his debut for Málaga CF was unforgettable, showcasing his talent during a dramatic penalty shootout that secured victory in the Copa del Rey against Barakaldo.
Alfonso and Carlos, Carlos and Alfonso. The guardians of La Rosaleda will remain so for a long time. We're in the best hands possible. Congratulations, guys!
