Málaga CF renews the key figures of its sporting project until 2028
Sporting director Loren Juarros and first team coach Juan Francisco Funes, as well as assistant coach Juan Carlos Andrés, will continue in their respective roles for two more seasons at Málaga CF.
The signing of both agreements took place today at the offices of La Rosaleda Stadium. With these renewals, the club strengthens the stability of its sporting project and reaffirms its commitment to a model in which talent developed in the academy will continue to be essential. In this way, the commitment of judicial administrator José María Muñoz and general manager Kike Pérez further reinforces the continuity of a project built on solid foundations.
Since his arrival in May 2023, Loren Juarros has promoted a strategy focused on the development and renewal of players trained at the MCF Academy. On the competitive side, under his leadership, Málaga CF’s promotion to LALIGA HYPERMOTION in the 2023/24 season stands out, achieved in his first year as head of the sporting department.
At the same time, under Loren’s leadership, coordination between the youth teams has been strengthened, optimising resources and laying the foundations for a project based on academy development in the short and medium term, with the Ciudad Deportiva Fundación MCF serving as the operational hub and a fundamental asset of the club. In addition, the Framework Agreement with numerous clubs across the province has given greater identity and a stronger sense of connection to the project led by the Burgos-born executive.
For his part, Juan Francisco Funes will continue adding years at the club, which he joined in 2020 to coach Atlético Malagueño. He spent five seasons with Málaga CF’s reserve team, highlighted by promotion to Segunda Federación in the 2024/25 campaign.
In the current 2025/26 season, at the end of November 2025, Funes took charge of the first team at La Rosaleda’s ‘Joaquín Peiró’ bench. Juan Carlos Andrés joined the staff as assistant coach, a professional with extensive experience on the sidelines and the backing of Loren Juarros, with whom he previously worked at Real Sociedad. With the Funes-Andrés duo, both in terms of results and style of play, Málaga CF has become a recognisable and well-regarded team, sitting in the upper positions of LALIGA HYPERMOTION with 10 matches remaining in the season.
Funes has continued the philosophy established by Loren on the pitch, firmly committing to a style aligned with Málaga CF’s identity and one that is delighting the club’s loyal supporters. His work leading the coaching staff has enabled the consolidation of players coming from Atlético Malagueño into the first team setup, boosting their development and encouraging the team’s gradual progression.
Both Loren and Funes have played a decisive role in strengthening a sporting model that places the MCF Academy as the main source of present and future talent for the club. The promotion of homegrown players, cohesion between the different sporting departments, and the construction of a solid structure are the pillars that have defined this period.
With these renewals until 2028, Málaga CF strengthens its commitment to stability, planning, and sustained growth, consolidating a project in which the Academy, a sense of belonging, and commitment to the club will continue to be fundamental.
