Discover 'Team VSDA'

Get to know the new coaching team and find out their methods of work thanks to MCFTV.

When Víctor Sánchez del Amo landed at Málaga CF he wasn’t alone. By his side, his inseparable coaching team. David Dóniga, as second coach; Nacho Oria, as physical trainer; Koke Contreras, as goalkeeping coach, and Carlos Morales as team analyst, flank the captain of the ship, Víctor Sánchez del Amo.

If there’s something that characterises this coaching team it’s the personal treatment of each player with a focus on the psychological aspect. “For us football is the football players. We are clear that we cannot separate the personal from the professional, which is why we work with this vision”, says Víctor, as one of the keys to his work. Something that is emphasised by Nacho Oria, who adds that “the psychological aspect can be even more important than the technical or physical”.

Koke Contreras, who has gone from being the goalkeeping coach for Atlético Malagueño to the first team, also stresses another of the important aspects of Team VSDA. “The experience we have as former professionals makes it easier for us to communicate, as we’ve already lived through it”, explains the ex-goalkeeper. Indeed, communication is something that Víctor’s team bases its method of work on, with the coach pointing out that good communication also involves listening. “It’s highly important to have direct, fluid and constant communication with the players, not just talking, but also listening”, adds the coach.

And, of course, we cannot forget one of the fundamentals of football; teamwork. “We try to use the opinion of everyone in all areas. The work room is for everyone”, says Víctor, whilst his assistant, David Dóniga echoes his opinion: “We attempt to take different approaches, the design of the team that will play, the video theme…” Carlos Morales goes on to talk about the evolution of football. “In professional football there are small details that make the difference, it’s important to have a good knowledge of both your squad and the rival”, he added.

“We don’t want to foster a relationship where they are on one line and we’re on another. We invite them to come to our side to reach a common goal, to achieve promotion to the First Division”, concludes Málaga CF coach, Víctor Sánchez del Amo.
