Tough defeat at the Carlos Tartiere (2-1)

Málaga CF lost by the narrowest of margins to Real Oviedo, with a goal in the dying moments. The Blue and Whites leave empty-handed in a very hard-fought match where they were superior in many phases.

Málaga CF visited Real Oviedo this Sunday 30th March on matchday 33 of LaLiga Hypermotion. The iconic Carlos Tartiere stadium looked impressive with an attendance of 21,815 spectators, including over 200 Málaga supporters.

Sergio Pellicer’s starting line-up was made up of: A. Herrero; C. Puga, Nelson Monte, Einar, Víctor; Luismi, Manu Molina, Larrubia, Antoñito, Lobete, and Chupe.

The Blue and Whites got off to an energetic start. They were vertical on the wings, fluid in midfield, and solid in defence whenever necessary, taking the initiative for several stretches of the first half. Larrubia and Lobete threatened the opposing goal on multiple occasions but couldn’t find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. The score remained 0-0 at half-time.

Málaga CF wasted no time in creating the first chance of the second half. Cordero took a corner kick to the near post, which Chupe headed just over the bar, missing by only a few centimetres.

Cordero came close to scoring in the 48th minute. The winger, under pressure, met a great cross from Larrubia at the penalty spot. However, he couldn’t generate enough power and the ball was comfortably collected by former Málaga player Aaron.

The home side responded to the Malaguista dominance and created several chances. Federico Viñas hit the post in the 52nd minute, Carlos Puga squandered a final pass in the 63rd, and a messy play was cleared by the defence in the 65th. Ultimately, the Carbayón side took the lead through Colombatto. The striker pounced on a loose ball in the box and made no mistake in the 75th minute (1-0).

As usual, Málaga CF didn’t settle for the score and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Dioni expertly headed a brilliant cross from Kevin into the top corner, scoring a stunning goal that silenced the Tartiere (1-1, 85’). However, in the dying moments, an unfortunate own goal by Manu Molina sealed the 2-1 final score in favour of the hosts. Despite a great effort and solid play, Málaga CF left Asturias without any reward.
