Defeat in Pozoblanco and a focus on staying up (3-1)

Málaga Femenino suffered an away defeat against CD Pozoalbense on matchday 11 of Group Sur ‘A’ in Reto Iberdrola.

Nati Gutiérrez selected the following starting-11: Lucía in goal; Encarni, Ruth, Candela and Ale in defence; Andrea Ríos and Tati in midfield with Gabi and Edna on the wings; María Ruiz as playmaker and Claudia Jiménez as striker.

The match got off to an unbeatable start for the Malaguistas. Claudia, in minute 3, put the Blue and Whites in the lead with her fourth goal of the season, one away from ‘pichichi’ María Ruiz. However, local forward Marín went level almost half an hour into the game (1-1, 28’). Lucía, with two superb saves, prevented a second goal for Pozoalbense before half-time.

In the second half, MCFF eagerly sought to regain the lead, but even though Nati’s girls were playing better, Farlyn put the Córdoba outfit 2-1 in front. Marín, who played a great match, sentenced the match with the third goal in minute 72’ (3-1). Málaga tried until the end, particularly from set pieces, in what was a special match for Lorena. The new signing debuted today in the final part of the game, wearing the purple and green jersey.

The defeat is the first of the second round after five matches, and with one left in the first phase of the season. However, there is the mathematical consequence that MCFF will fight to remain in the category with now no options to be in the first four places in the group.
