Entertaining preseason opener ends in six-goal thriller (3-3)

Málaga CF drew 3-3 with Leicester City FC at the Banús Football Center in their first preseason friendly. Chupe, Aaron Ochoa and Dotor were on target for the Blue and Whites.

On a sweltering Saturday evening in Marbella, around 1,500 spectators were in attendance. Juanfran Funes fielded two completely different starting-11s in each half, with several Atlético Malagueño players also getting valuable minutes.

The first-half lineup featured Carlos López; Juani, Recio, Santaella, Dani Sánchez; Rafa, Arriaza; David Larrubia, Cruz, Joaquín; and Jauregi. After the break, Andrés Céspedes took over in goal, with Lobete, Izan Merino, Otu, Óscar González; Haitam, Dotor, Dani Lorenzo, Aaron Ochoa; Adrián Niño and Chupe making up the second-half 11.

Leicester took the lead in the 26th minute through Lois Page, whose effort from a corner found its way into the Malaguista net. All of the remaining goals came after the break, with Málaga the better side for much of the second half.

Chupe levelled the score at 1-1 in minute 53 after Aaron Ochoa picked him out following a corner, before Ochoa himself put the Blue and Whites 2-1 ahead in the 67th minute. Coulibaly equalised for the visitors in the 80th minute, and Tommy Neale restored Leicester's lead at 2-3 in the 87th. However, deep into stoppage time, Carlos Dotor struck to earn Málaga a deserved 3-3 draw.

It was a valuable test against quality opposition for Málaga, who will round off their second week of preseason with a well-earned rest on Sunday.
