The ‘Malaguistas’ greeted Darío Silva, De Los Santos and later, Gustavo Munúa; three former Málaga CF players from Uruguay who welcomed the Blue and Whites to Montevideo.
Darío Silva comments: “To see the colours I used to wear and see friends I left behind is a huge honour for me, and it’s an honour for Gonzalo for European clubs to come here. Welcoming Málaga CF here is an immense privilege.”
“This was the only team with whom I won an International Cup, the Intertoto, which was very small, but a big deal for us. I send Málaga CF my warmest regards from the heart, as it was one of the most important times of my life.”
For his part, Gonzalo de los Santos adds that welcoming Málaga CF to Montevideo “is a pleasure as it was unthinkable for a cup like this to be organised for European teams a few years ago. For us to be the hosts is amazing, particularly considering everything we experienced with Málaga CF.”
