Condolences for the death of Mangüi

Málaga CF sends deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Manuel Rojas Moreno ‘Mangüi’, a CD Málaga player in his day, who passed away today, Tuesday. Rest in peace.

Born in Málaga in 1928, Mangüi occupied the position of striker and had a long career, beginning in CD Requena in 1942, followed by Fernández Requena CF (CD Málaga’s reserve team) and Azucarera Larios.  His debut in national category was with CD San Fernando, forming part of the Cádiz-based side from 1947 to 1951.

After a brief spell with Real Jaén, he signed to Sevilla FC where he remained for two seasons.  Mangüi was later called-up to represent Spain, although injury prevented him from making his debut.  In 1954 he signed to Second Division side, Real Murcia, later achieving First Division promotion.

Following three seasons in Murcia, he joined to CD Málaga in 1957, where he stayed until 1961, alternating his participation with Atlético Malagueño in the 1959/60 and 1960/61 seasons.  Between League and Cup games, he took part in 37 matches, scoring 4 goals with CD Málaga.  In 1961 he signed to CD Veleño, followed by Antequerano and Olímpica Victoriana, where he retired in 1968 at 40 years old.
