Gracia: “It wouldn’t have been fair to lose this match”

After the draw with Rayo Vallecano, the Malaguista coach comments: “My players did a good job, they showed commitment and ambition.”

Good start

“I’m happy with the first half, I think it was very complete despite the lack of goals.  We put on a brave performance, maintained the pressure in the attacking half, took much of the initiative of play and created numerous chances to open the scoring.”

Impressive teamwork

“We must recognise that in the first half, the rival barely arrived at the area.  We had a shot that hit the post, then another that went over the crossbar, but I refuse to say we were lucky to draw today.  I think we did a lot of things right in order to win this game, above all in the first half.  We were able to get a goal in the final minutes and it looked as though we’d had a bit of luck.  My players did a good job, they showed commitment and ambition, and again, good fortune eluded us.”

Lack of goal

“It’s not just a case of bad luck, we must seek ways to improve further, as this is happening to us continually, it’s not just a blip.  We’re doing something wrong when we’re not able to materialise the chances we have.  There’s definitely work to do to better ourselves and the truth is there’s not much time left.  We have had times throughout the season where we didn’t even see the goal, and others where we were more fortunate.  I trust that in the last four games, we’ll enjoy more goals in our favour.”

Recognition for the rival

“I think there were many alternatives, but I can say that losing this match wouldn’t have been fair.  The rival worked hard throughout the game, struggled in the first half and in the second they stretched themselves little by little and began to manage possession.  This team creates danger with spaces.  They gained a point and I recognise their work.”

A defeat wouldn’t have been fair

“I remain with the fact that we gained a point, it wouldn’t have been good to lose another consecutive home match.  Also, a second defeat would have been unfair.  This point will help us, and I say again that I’m not unhappy with the team’s work despite the results not being favourable.”
