Málaga will travel to Zaragoza to play their match on Sunday 17th November, on matchday 15 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. The game will take place at La Romareda, starting at 21:00. The charming municipality of Colmenar will be the focal point featured in the match design and on the armband worn by the Blue and White captain.
Colmenar, a gateway between the Axarquía and the Montes de Málaga, is a village that breathes nature and authenticity. Surrounded by mountains and crowned by peaks like Chamizo and Sierra Prieta, its lands stretch into a mosaic of olive groves and cereal fields that decorate its slopes. Every spring, the air is filled with the aromas of rosemary, thyme, and orange blossom, infusing its landscapes with freshness. Known as the “Capital de los Montes de Málaga,” it is a place that captivates with its essence and scenery, where the rugged and the welcoming coexist in perfect harmony.
The town holds a trace of history that dates back to prehistoric times, with findings of ancient inhabitants in the caves of Casabermeja and Villanueva de Cauche. During the Roman era, the region thrived as a strategic passage between Antequera, Málaga, and Granada, while under Muslim rule, it became part of the fertile Fashs Qamara. During Ibn Hafsun's rebellion in the 9th century, Colmenar was linked to the iconic Bobastro, symbolising a time of resistance. After the Reconquista, Francisco de Coalla acquired Colmenar and established it as a mayorazgo in the 16th century, creating a nucleus that would become crucial in the region's history.
Among its winding streets and whitewashed houses, the town hides countless stories waiting to be discovered. The Church of the Assumption and the Chapel of the Virgin of Candelaria stand out as symbols of its devotion, while the Puerta de la Cruz, with its shield, welcomes visitors to a town that preserves traces of a fascinating Roman and Arab past.
It is a corner of natural magic. The “dorsal Bética” mountain range rises to the north, while the gentle Montes de Málaga caress the horizon. In the centre, between fertile fields, the corridor between Colmenar and Periana forms a unique passage, where the scents of rosemary and thyme blend with the freshness of the air. The local fauna, from wild goats to birds of prey, live freely in this landscape.
Colmenar is a paradise for food lovers. Dishes such as Plato de los Montes, migas, and chivo reflect the essence of the land, always accompanied by its unique olive oil. And to sweeten the palate, you'll find roscos de huevo, borrachuelos, and meloja, a traditional dessert made with fruit, pumpkin, and honey.
The grape pressing, which results in the delicious vino mosto, and the threshing, an agricultural tradition that remains alive with each harvest, are essential parts of the local identity. The Puerta de la Cruz marks the entrance to a place where customs continue to be lived with passion.
For the design of the captain’s armband, as well as the poster design for the match against Real Zaragoza, José Luis Puche once again demonstrates his mastery in capturing the uniqueness of the Málaga municipalities.
The artist has creatively captured the iconic monument to Alfonso Molina Padilla, President of the Provincial Government, Deputy of the Cortes, and Knight appointed by the King. In the sculpture, he is depicted alongside a child, representing his legacy of dedicating his inheritance to the education of the younger generation. Together, standing on a pedestal, the figure symbolises his commitment to the future of the community.
