Coach and Captain, stars of the stats

Fede Ricca accumulated 50 official matches with Málaga CF in the last league game, and coach Muñiz reached the second highest number of matches at the helm of MCF.

50 times Ricca

The Uruguayan captain arrived at the Club midway through the 2015/16 season, playing 8 matches (1 goal and 1 assist in 641 minutes) that year. In 2016/17, he accumulated 21 games (1 assist, 1,619 minutes) and last season, 2017/18, he played 14 games (1 assist, 1,111 minutes), always in the League and always in the First Division.

So far this year, Fede Ricca has taken part in 7 LaLiga 1|2|3 matches (1 goal, 630 minutes) as the undisputed left-back in the starting line-up. His strength on the left wing of the defence, shared with Pau Torres, has been fundamental in making the Malaguista defence the best of the category during the start of the 2018/19 season.

Muñiz, #2 in history

The Gijón-born coach continues to make history with MCF. In Las Palmas, nine days ago, he surpassed Manuel Pellegrini as the coach with the most official matches at the helm of the team. Peiró, the undisputed leader, accumulated 224 matches as coach between 1998 and 2003. Muñiz is second (131) and Pellegrini third (129). Antonio Benítez, combining CD Málaga (311) and Málaga CF (69), is the coach who has headed up the most matches in the history of the Club under all names (380).

Juan Ramón Muñiz’s first match as Blue and Whites’ coach was in the 2006/07 season, on Second Division matchday 11, which ended in draw away to Lorca (2-2). His best winning streak was 10 games (8 League and 2 Cup matches), since the last match of 2006/07 (Castellón 0-1 Málaga) to the 3rd round of the Copa del Rey in 2007/08 (Tenerife 1-2 Málaga). That was, without doubt, the best season for Muñiz, which included First Division promotion, 20 victories and 12 draws out of 42 matches in the league competition.
