Chupe renews until 2029!

The striker has renewed his contract with Málaga until the end of the 2028/29 season, extending by one more year the deal linking him to the Blue and White club.

Carlos Ruiz Rubio, ‘Chupe’, has signed his contract renewal at La Rosaleda Stadium’s offices alongside the club’s sporting director, Loren Juarros.

Málaga CF secures both its present and future with a player developed in the MCF Academy, who embodies the hard work, ambition, and sense of belonging that define the Blue and White identity. Through effort, humility, and goals, Chupe has already earned a special place in the recent history of Malaguismo.

The 21-year-old homegrown player from Córdoba is enjoying a spectacular individual season. With 22 goals in 37 matches played and only two remaining in LALIGA HYPERMOTION, he currently sits second in the ‘Pichichi’ standings, behind only Sergio Arribas of UD Almería, who has 24 goals.

Chupe’s scoring explosion is reflected in numbers that confirm him as a lethal striker. He has recorded eight league braces and boasts a conversion rate close to 50% in front of goal, scoring 22 times from 48 shots on target. His contribution to the team goes beyond goals, as he has also provided five assists, ranking second in that category behind Joaquín, who has six.

Chupe’s 2025/26 season, still not yet finished, is already reaching historic proportions. He is closing in on the records set in Spain’s Second Division by Pedro Bazán, the all-time top scorer in the history of CD Málaga. The ‘cañonero de la Algaba’ scored 29 goals in the 1947/48 season, 26 goals in 1948/49, winning the ‘Pichichi’ trophy and securing promotion to the top flight, and 25 goals in 1951/52, when he again claimed the ‘Pichichi’, won the title, and achieved promotion to the First Division. Chupe has already matched another iconic striker, Paquito, who scored 22 goals for the legendary ‘Súper Málaga’ side of 1987/88 that earned a brilliant promotion to the First Division.

More recently, Catanha is the closest benchmark to Chupe in terms of goal-scoring numbers in the Second Division. In 1998/99, the Spanish-Brazilian striker scored 26 goals, earning the ‘Pichichi’ Trophy and playing a decisive role in Málaga CF winning the league title and securing promotion back to the elite.

From an MCF perspective, Chupe is already closing in on the club’s all-time top 10 scorers, with 26 goals in 58 official appearances wearing the Blue and White shirt. And he has achieved this in less than two seasons with the first team, having made his debut in a 2-2 draw between Granada CF and Málaga on 20th September 2024. He also played a key role during the 2024/25 season for Atlético Malagueño, helping the reserve side earn promotion to the Segunda Federación. Chupe finished as the group’s top scorer with 24 league goals in 23 matches.

Chupe’s renewal represents a clear demonstration of commitment and mutual trust at a decisive point in the season. The Córdoba-born striker has chosen to reaffirm his commitment to Málaga CF at a moment of peak competitive demand, prioritising the continuity of a project and a sense of belonging over any other considerations.

The club, in turn, secures the continuity of one of the most decisive forwards in LALIGA HYPERMOTION and one of the most promising talents in Spanish football. Málaga and Chupe will continue hand in hand until 2029.

Congratulations, Chupe!
