Two positive aspects of the pre-season friendly against Aston Villa FC: Panama-born defender Roberto Chen made his debut with the Blue and Whites and Pawlowski put on an excellent performance. Both players spoke to MCF TV after the match.
Roberto Chen’s debut with his new team was brought forward following Weligton’s injury, and he left a good impression: “I think I performed well and was ready for the challenge, despite my debut being sooner than anticipated. We were 3-0 down but we managed to claw back two goals and had numerous opportunities to equalise before full time. I’m very happy with my Málaga debut, I think on the whole the team played well, and I’m pleased from a personal point of view too. I’ve got a lot of room for improvement, but my teammates know they can count on me,” affirms the latest ‘Malaguista’ signing.
Chen is well aware of the fans’ support back home in Panama: “I think people were anxious to see me play, and I hope they were pleased with my debut performance with Málaga. The coach said in general he was pleased with me, there are things I need to work on, which I’ll do each week,” adds Chen.
Polish-born Pawlowski was one of the stand-out players of the match: “It was a tough game; Aston Villa scored three goals early on which was difficult for us to come back from as they have a lot of character on the pitch. We tried to score more goals but on certain occasions like today, the ball just didn’t find the net,” explains Pawlowski. However at 3-1 down, the Blue and Whites showed excellent skills on the right wing: “I gained possession and was marked one-on-one on the right wing. I saw an opportunity to pass to my teammates at the right time, the Villa defence made a mistake and we scored,” concludes the Polish-born player.
