Cenk Gonen undergoes surgery on discomfort to left shoulder

The Turkish goalkeeper has been suffering with the injury since October and had an operation on 8th March in Turkey.

The Turkish international arrived in Málaga last summer along with goalkeepers; Roberto Jiménez and Andrés Prieto. During the pre-season in Holland and Germany, he alternated the role of starting keeper with his teammates and was called-up by his national team during the September FIFA window.

Subsequently, following a training session in October, the keeper sustained a partial rupture to the supraspinatus tendon in his left shoulder, preventing him from exercising normally. Despite the situation, the goalkeeper continued his preparation – alternating between recovery treatments and training sessions – with the aim of avoiding surgery.

The keeper proved himself in a last match with the team, on 4th January against Hamburg SV, at Municipal de La Línea, in which he played the 45 minutes of the second half.

In the end, the discomfort didn’t subside, and the situation deemed an operation necessary. A possibility that had been known for several months, and that weighed fundamentally on his federative absence for the second part of the season.

Cenk Gonen had surgery on 8th March in his home country and could return to training before the end of the season. We wish our goalkeeper a lot of encouragement and good luck with his recovery.
