Cazorla: “We controlled Madrid, but teams like this are unforgiving”

Málaga Club de Fútbol players Santi Cazorla, Sebas Fernández and Eliseu spoke to the media in La Rosaleda’s Mixed Zone after the Blue and Whites’ clash against Real Madrid in the return match of the Copa del Rey’s second leg (0-1).

Statements:

Cazorla:
“We stood up to Real Madrid as the two previous qualifiers had given us options, but these things happen in football and teams such as Real Madrid are unforgiving.  We’ve got to have patience and wait for this run of results to pass.  We controlled the match, we were always committed and we played well.  Now we have to turn the page and focus on the League.”

“Personally I feel increasingly at ease, playing more in the centre, and mixing it up more with my teammates.”

Sebastián Fernández:
“It’s been a very even game.  With the mistake and the foul we’ve not been able to get through the qualifier, but Willy has given us a lot since his arrival and these things happen, so there’s no need to be upset.”

“The Copa’s done and dusted, and now we’re looking forward to the League and continuing with our European options, and being where we want to be, that’s what we want.”

Eliseu:
“The team played well, but we were unlucky.  The team, once again, were fantastic, and it was a shame that we couldn’t make it through the qualifier.”

“I’m here for whatever the team and manager wants and needs. I felt very good in this position and we’ll continue working hard to improve.”

“Now it’s time to focus exclusively on the League to maintain those European positions.”
