Cazorla: “The second half was ours; we deserved a draw at least”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Santi Cazorla spoke to the media in the Ciudad de Málaga stadium press room moments before today’s training session.

Santi Cazorla’s statements:

“Yesterday’s was a difficult defeat.  We deserved more in the game and, with how it turned out, a draw would’ve been fairer.  It was a physical game, we knew it would be because Sporting are playing in the relegation zone, and after the first goal they closed down the back. The second half was ours, with mobility and opportunities, but we didn’t know how to take advantage of that.”

“We don’t judge the referees, but it’s clear that yesterday, between the offside goal, the penalty, and that in the first 15 minutes we had two yellow cards when it was only them who had all the fouls… that the referee did us no favours.”

“It was a shame because it was a day of matches between the rivals of the European zone and we could’ve got a lot nearer towards Champions, but we didn’t finish off these opportunities, and it’s clear that we didn’t do everything as we should have.”

“I don’t think it harms Barcelona too much to play mid-week, but certainly it’ll be a great match against Madrid and they’ll go out to get the Copa.”

“Now we’ve got to continue working hard to break this patch of bad results and of games without a win. We’ve got to get back to achieving three out of three.”

“Personally, I feel good, although I’m playing somewhat further out from the area than I have been over the last few years.  The boss wants me to play and help the team there and I’m doing the best I can.  I’m in constant contact with the ball and that always suits me.”
