Cartagena, kilometre 31

The team won an important point yesterday in Málaga’s first official match at Cartagonova, leaving a good taste in the mouth of the Malaguista expedition.

The 1-1 draw between FC Cartagena and Málaga CF featured a number of highlights that we review in our usual kilometre:

Jozabed’s moment

Excitement was high following his arrival in summer due to his great footballing qualities. Little by little, as the season has progressed, ‘Joza’ has found his space on Pellicer’s 11. His arrival from the second line and fluidity between the lines have been crucial to the team’s good moment during play. By scoring a goal to give us +1 point, his weight on the team grows even more.

Electric Jairo

The possible Malaguista MVP of the match was the Cantabrian winger. His actions on the right wing kept the Cartagena defence in check. He passed a promising ball to Caye, tested Chichizola’s reflexes with a superb shot and ended the match literally exhausted. He sustained a slight muscular strain, pending evolution. What a game, Jairo.

Homegrown players are a constant support

Quintana debuted in the starting-11 in LaLiga SmartBank on the defensive pivot due to the absence of Escassi. In the second half Benítez freshened up the right with his constant movement up the wing. Ramón again had the necessary minutes on the pitch to gain confidence, and Julio, with an action as acrobatic as it was effective, was key in assisting Jozabed to net the definitive 1-1. The Academy always delivers.

Four matches on the bounce without defeat

During a decisive moment of the season, Málaga have accumulated a streak of positive results and scored points. Winning is just as important as not losing, which has been the case in the last four games; namely victories against Sabadell and Logroñés and draws with Tenerife and Cartagena. Eight out of 12 points to continue to navigate the comfortable part of the standings with peace of mind.
