Carretera de Cádiz features in #MálagaCastellón

The most populated district on Málaga’s western coast, Carretera de Cádiz, is the focus of the match poster and the captain’s armband designed by artist José Luis Puche for the game against Castellón.

Málaga CF will face CD Castellón at La Rosaleda Stadium on matchday 37 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION in a highly anticipated clash between two teams currently occupying promotion playoff positions. The match will take place on Saturday 25th April at 21:00. Carretera de Cádiz, a district that blends working-class tradition, urban development, and a close connection to the coastline, will serve as the symbolic representation of #MálagaCastellón.

Carretera de Cádiz has established itself as one of Málaga city’s main demographic and economic engines. Located along the western coastal strip, its growth has been closely tied to the industrial and residential expansion of the 20th century, which transformed the area into a large urban zone with a strong sense of local identity.

One of the district’s most notable features is its proximity to the sea, with urban beaches such as Playa de la Misericordia and Playa de San Andrés becoming popular hubs for leisure and outdoor activities. The coastline is complemented by seafront promenades and recreational areas that enhance the district’s appeal for both residents and visitors.

Industrial heritage is also a key part of the district’s identity. Historic landmarks such as the Chimenea de la Térmica serve as reminders of the area’s past, while redeveloped spaces like La Térmica have been transformed into cultural and innovation centres with year-round programming.

The district also features wide avenues and major urban corridors, along with municipal markets and local shops that preserve its everyday neighbourhood character. It is further supported by sports facilities, schools, and public services that cater to a large and diverse population. Among its green spaces, Parque del Oeste stands out for its size and variety.

Its strong transport links to the rest of the city, both through public transport and major road networks, reinforce Carretera de Cádiz’s strategic role within Málaga’s urban structure. This accessibility consolidates the district as one of the city’s most active and representative areas.

The image created by Puche features, as its central element, the sculpture that presides over the seafront promenade in the Huelin area, El Marengo, a work by sculptor Elena Laverón. This piece divides the composition into sections showcasing different elements of the district, such as the Torre Mónica, a sunset scene, and a traditional ‘espetero’ found along the promenade. Like the rest of Málaga CF captain’s armbands, the Carretera de Cádiz edition will be available for purchase through the official Málaga CF online store.
